A Chiara

The story of 15-year-old Chiara whose close-knit family falls apart after her father abandons them in Calabria. Chiara starts to investigate to understand why her father disappeared and as she gets closer to the truth, she is forced to decide what kind of future she wants for herself.

Director Jonas Carpignano depicts life i Calabria, south in Italy, in a scruffy but beautifully realistic film with impressive performances from non-professional actors. Swamy Rotolo excels as Chiara, and the remainder of the cast, being played by Rotolos actual family, create an intimate and life-like family dynamic. Carpignano has previously directed the award winning and critically acclaimed films Mediterranea (2015) and A Ciambra (2017), both of which are also centered on life in Calabria.
